Hello
There! Let me introduce myself: my name is Larth the Etruscan,
navigator, merchant and warrior. Don't be deceived by my meek
appearance: I've had so many adventures that when I tell you about them
over a goblet of wine, you'll be amazed. Like the time I put a whole
gang of Celtic barbarians to flight and...

After
ten years of work on the elusive Etruscan Scripts, in 1981 I published
a book called, "Catalog of Etruscan Words". In the book I
gathered all of the Etruscan scripts which were then extant and broke
down the scripts into familiar words and phrases. Using a matrix I
listed words which were common among the scripts, and using those
words, which were often with repetitive phrases, such as one would
find in noun plus epithet structures, i.e.: in liturgical use or in
the Iliad, I isolated other words and phrases.

"It
is one of the most important documents for the length of the text as
well as for the number of words contained therein. It is a manuscript,
found in Egypt on the bands of a mummy, and presently conserved in the
National Museum of Zagreb (Croatia). It is also the only example of a
book written on linen cloth (hence the Latin name Liber Linteus).
Moreover, it is the only Etruscan book handed down to posterity.

The
Etruscans
home.att.net/~oko/etruscan.htm
It seems that there is no need
to write an introduction because there are so many books about Etruscans
that describe their art, history, religion and every day life. But
even by reading the books, the Etruscan mysteries continue to be hidden.
Why? It seems that every detail in Roman history and political life was
recorded, why not about Etruscan? The excavated artifacts testify of
their great culture at that time. But even that is not the biggest
mystery. The biggest mystery is the fact that Romans were sending their
sons to the Etruscan school and every one of them after graduation
mysteriously forgot Etruscan language and who were they.

Etruscan-Roman excavations of Poggio Moscini
www.pelagus.it/bolsena/eng/volse.html
The remains of the
Etruscan-Roman city of Volsinii have come to light near the castle,
about 100 meters from the Rocca Monaldeschi. They are surrounded by a
remarkable 4 kilometers long defence wall, built of large geometrical
blocks of tufo. The suurounding hills, especially in the areas of Poggio
Sala, Ospedaletto, Vietana, Pantanesca, Gazzetta and Piazzano, are
dotted with necropoli made up of chamber and ditch tombs dating between
the 3rd century b.C. and the 4th a.C..

The present excavations at
Poggio Colla (Tuscany, Italy) began in the summer of 1995 under the
overall direction of Gregory Warden, Southern Methodist University, and
Susan Kane, Oberlin College. The excavations have revealed an Etruscan
settlement that dates from the seventh to the third century BC.
