WITH A VERY BIG THANK YOU FROM THE LONWEB TEAM!
A busca de Lorna The search for Lorna
Daisy Hamilton era uma detetive particular. Daisy Hamilton was a private detective.
She was thirty years old and had been a detective for the past two years.
Every morning she went to her office to wait for telephone calls or open the door to clients needing her services.
Daisy wasn’t very well known yet but occasionally people telephoned her from the advertisement she had put in the local newspaper.
One morning at about eleven o’clock someone knocked on her office door.
It was a fat lady who wore a fur around her neck.
"Olá, posso ajudá-la em algo?" Daisy perguntou à senhora. "Entre, por favor, e sente-se." "Hello, can I help you?" Daisy asked the lady. "Please come and sit down."
"Oh, sim, realmente! Necessito de sua ajuda desesperadamente. "Oh yes indeed! I need your help desperately.
Lorna, minha filhinha desapareceu. Não sei o que fazer." Lorna, my little one has disappeared. I don’t know what to do."
Daisy offered the fat lady a cup of instant coffee and awaited the details.
The fat lady sat down heavily and put her large red leather handbag on Daisy’s desk.
"Diga-me tudo, por favor, - dona …?" "Please tell me everything – Mrs. …?"
"Eu me chamo Edwina Humphries. Tenho medo de que me peçam dinheiro – tenho medo de que Lorna tenha sido raptada!" "Mrs. Edwina Humphries is my name. I am afraid they will ask me for money – I’m afraid Lorna has been kidnapped!"
" Isso é terrível, Dona Edwina. O senhor Humphries também acha que a Lorna tenha sido raptada?" "That’s terrible, Mrs. Humphries. Does Mr. Humphries, too, think Lorna has been kidnapped?"
"Meu marido não está interessado se Lorna foi ou não raptada!" "My husband is not interested if Lorna has been kidnapped or not"
"Realmente, dona Edwina? Mas seu marido é mesmo o pai de Lorna?" "Really, Mrs. Humphries? But is your husband Lorna’s real father?"
"Não sei o que a senhora quer dizer. Compramos Lorna juntos," respondeu a senhora Humphries. "I don’t know what you mean. We bought Lorna together," replied Mrs. Humphries.
"A senhora comprou……. Dona Edwina, isso é ilegal, a senhora sabe". "You bought………….Mrs. Humphries, that’s illegal, you know."
"Não, não é, na India não!" "No, it isn’t, not in India!"
"A senhora comprou Lorna na India?" "You bought Lorna in India?"
"Em verdade comprei! E é sempre uma grande companhia para mim, a senhora sabe." "Yes indeed! And she always keeps me great company, you know."
Mrs. Humphries opened her huge leather bag to pull out a handkerchief."
With horror Daisy saw a wiggling creature come out of that bag.
"Dona Edwina, joga já isso fora!" gritou Daisy.  "Mrs. Humphries – move that away immeditaley!" screamed Daisy.
"O que? Oh Lorna – finalmente a encontrei!" disse dona Edwina. "Você se escondeu em minha bolsa, menina levada!" "What? Oh Lorna – I’ve found you at last!" said Mrs. Humphries. "You hid in my bag – you naughty girl!"
"Dona Edwina, essa é a Lorna?" "Mrs. Humphries. This is Lorna?"
"É, nossa cobra de brejo bengali. Oh, muito obrigada minha querida. Não, acho que não vou mais precisar de seus serviços!" "Yes, our Bengali swamp snake. Oh thank you my dear. No, I don’t think I need your services any longer!"
After Daisy shut the door after Mrs. Humphries, she made a mental note to write in the advertisements: no animals, no snakes.

VOLUNTEER A TRANSLATION OR AUDIO RECORDING USING THE TEMPLATES PROVIDED HERE!

Lonweb.org has been online since 1997 and it has always managed to remain a not-for-profit website offering all its resources for free. Most Daisy Stories, Arranger Stories and Opal Storiese have been translated by volunteers who just enjoy translating and being useful to people like you who are always on the lookout for good linguistic resources. Would you like to become one of our volunteers? You can start right away following a couple of very simple instructions: when translating the Daisy,  Arranger or Opal Stories as a volunteer, please use the templates provided below and fit your translation into the parallel text slots provided. Before translating, you may check that the story has never been translated before. On the other hand, we love to publish more than one translation for any given story, so feel free to send us a translation of a story which has already been translated if you feel like it! After completion, please send your translation to robertocasiraghi@lonweb.org, it will be published in a matter of days, if not hours. Also, if you like to mention something about yourself (which may amount also to a professional curriculum!) or send us your photograph we'll be more than happy to publish it.

NEW! AUDIO PROGRAM - RECORD YOUR TRANSLATED DAISY/ARRANGER/OPAL STORY IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE!
Yes, we feel that our resources would really benefit from an audio recording to complement the reading. We do not need a professional voiceover sort of quality, the audio just needs to be understandable and without excessive background noise. So don't be shy and send us your audio readings of the Daisy, Arranger and Opal Stories!
