WITH A VERY BIG THANK YOU FROM THE LONWEB TEAM!
Die Suche nach Lorna The search for Lorna
Daisy Hamilton war Privatdetektivin.

Daisy Hamilton was a private detective.

She was thirty years old and had been a detective for the past two years.

Every morning she went to her office to wait for phone calls or open the door to clients needing her services.

Daisy wasn't very well known yet but occasionally people telephoned her from the advertisement she had put in the local newspaper.

One morning at about eleven o'clock someone knocked on her office door.

It was a fat lady who wore a fur around her neck.

"Hallo, kann ich Ihnen helfen?" fragte Daisy die Dame.

"Hello, can I help you?" Daisy asked the lady. "Please come and sit down."

"O ja, wirklich! Ich brauche dringend Ihre Hilfe.

"Oh yes indeed! I need your help desperately.

Meine kleine Lorna ist verschwunden. Ich weiß nicht, was ich tun soll."

Lorna, my little one has disappeared. I don't know what to do."

Daisy offered the fat lady a cup of instant coffee and awaited the details.

The fat lady sat down heavily and put her large red leather handbag on Daisy's desk.

"Bitte erzählen Sie mir alles, Mrs. .....?"

"Please tell me everything - Mrs. ...?"

"Ich heiße Edwina Humphries. Ich fürchte, die werden Geld wollen – ich fürchte, Lorna wurde entführt!"

"Mrs. Edwina Humphries is my name. I am afraid they will ask me for money - I'm afraid Lorna has been kidnapped!"

"Das ist ja furchtbar, Mrs. Humphries. Glaubt Mr. Humphries auch, Lorna sei entführt worden?"

"That's terrible, Mrs. Humphries. Does Mr. Humphries, too, think Lorna has been kidnapped?"

"Meinen Mann kümmert es nicht, ob Lorna entführt wurde oder nicht!"

"My husband is not interested if Lorna has been kidnapped or not!"

"Wirklich, Mrs. Humphries?  Ist Mr. Humphries denn Lornas leiblicher Vater?"

"Really, Mrs. Humphries? But is your husband Lorna's real father?"

"Ich weiß nicht, was Sie meinen. Wir haben Lorna zusammen gekauft", antwortete Mrs. Humphries.

"I don't know what you mean. We bought Lorna together," replied Mrs. Humphries.

"Gekauft... Sie wissen aber, dass das illegal ist, Mrs. Humphries."

"You bought ............Mrs. Humphries, that's illegal, you know."

"Nein, ist es nicht, nicht in Indien!"

"No it isn't, not in India!"

"Sie haben Lorna in Indien gekauft?"

"You bought Lorna in India?"

"Ja natürlich. Und sie leistet mir immer so gut Gesellschaft, wissen Sie."

Yes indeed! And she always keeps me great company, you know."

"Mrs. Humphries opened her huge leather bag to pull out a handkerchief.

With horror Daisy saw a wiggling creature come out of that bag.

"Mrs. Humphries – nehmen Sie das sofort weg!" kreischte Daisy.

"Mrs. Humphries - move that away immediately!" screamed Daisy.

"Was? O Lorna, endlich habe ich dich gefunden!" sagte Mrs. Humphries. Du hast dich in meiner Tasche versteckt, du böses Mädchen!"

"What? Oh Lorna - I've found you at last!" said Mrs. Humphries. "You hid in my bag - you naughty girl!"

"Mrs. Humphries – das ist Lorna?"

"Mrs. Humphries. This is Lorna?"

"Ja, unsere bengalische Sumpfschlange. Oh, ich danke Ihnen, meine Liebe, aber ich glaube, ich benötige Ihre Dienste nicht mehr!"

Yes, our Bengali swamp snake. Oh thank you my dear. No, I don't think I need your services any longer!"

As Daisy shut the door after Mrs. Humphries, she made a mental note to write in the advertisement: no animals, no snakes.

VOLUNTEER A TRANSLATION OR AUDIO RECORDING USING THE TEMPLATES PROVIDED HERE!

Lonweb.org has been online since 1997 and it has always managed to remain a not-for-profit website offering all its resources for free. Most Daisy Stories, Arranger Stories and Opal Storiese have been translated by volunteers who just enjoy translating and being useful to people like you who are always on the lookout for good linguistic resources. Would you like to become one of our volunteers? You can start right away following a couple of very simple instructions: when translating the Daisy,  Arranger or Opal Stories as a volunteer, please use the templates provided below and fit your translation into the parallel text slots provided. Before translating, you may check that the story has never been translated before. On the other hand, we love to publish more than one translation for any given story, so feel free to send us a translation of a story which has already been translated if you feel like it! After completion, please send your translation to robertocasiraghi@lonweb.org, it will be published in a matter of days, if not hours. Also, if you like to mention something about yourself (which may amount also to a professional curriculum!) or send us your photograph we'll be more than happy to publish it.

NEW! AUDIO PROGRAM - RECORD YOUR TRANSLATED DAISY/ARRANGER/OPAL STORY IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE!
Yes, we feel that our resources would really benefit from an audio recording to complement the reading. We do not need a professional voiceover sort of quality, the audio just needs to be understandable and without excessive background noise. So don't be shy and send us your audio readings of the Daisy, Arranger and Opal Stories!
