Daisy Hamilton była prywatnym detektywem.

Daisy Hamilton was a private detective.

She was thirty years old and had been a detective for the past two years.

Every morning she went to her office to wait for phone calls or open the door to clients needing her services.

Daisy wasn't very well known yet but occasionally people telephoned her from the advertisement she had put in the local newspaper.

Pewnego ranka około godziny jedenastej ktoś zapukał do drzwi jej biura.

One morning at about eleven o'clock someone knocked on her office door.

Była to gruba pani z futrem wokół szyi.

It was a fat lady who wore a fur around her neck.

"Dzień dobry, w czym mogę pomóc ?" Daisy spytała panią "Proszę wejść i usiąść"

"Hello, can I help you?" Daisy asked the lady. "Please come and sit down."

"Oh tak oczywiście!, rozpaczliwie potrzebuję pani pomocy.

"Oh yes indeed! I need your help desperately.

Lorna, moja malutka zaginęła. Nie wiem co mam robić."

Lorna, my little one has disappeared. I don't know what to do."

Daisy zaproponowała grubej pani filiżankę kawy rozpuszczalnej i czekała na szczegóły.

Daisy offered the fat lady a cup of instant coffee and awaited the details.

Gruba pani usiadła ciężko i położyła swoją czerwoną skórzaną torebkę na biurku Daisy.

The fat lady sat down heavily and put her large red leather handbag on Daisy's desk.

"Proszę mi wszystko opowiedzieć - pani...?"

"Please tell me everything - Mrs. ...?"

"Nazywam się Edwina Humphries. Obawiam się że będą chcieli pieniądze - boję się że, Lorna została porwana!"

"Mrs. Edwina Humphries is my name. I am afraid they will ask me for money - I'm afraid Lorna has been kidnapped!"

"To okropne , pani Humphries. Czy pan Humphries też myśli, że Lorna została porwana?"

"That's terrible, Mrs. Humphries. Does Mr. Humphries, too, think Lorna has been kidnapped?"

"Mojego męża nie interesuje czy Lorna została porwana czy nie!"

"My husband is not interested if Lorna has been kidnapped or not!"

"Naprawdę, pani Humphries? Ale czy pani mąż jest prawdziwym ojcem Lorny?"

"Really, Mrs. Humphries? But is your husband Lorna's real father?"

"Nie wiem co ma pani na myśli. Kupiliśmy Lornę razem," odpowiedziała pani Humphries.

"I don't know what you mean. We bought Lorna together," replied Mrs. Humphries.

"Kupiliście........pani Humphries, wie pani że to nielegalne".

"You bought ............Mrs. Humphries, that's illegal, you know."

"Nie, nie jest , nie w Indiach!."

"No it isn't, not in India!"

"Kupiła pani Lornę w Indiach?"

"You bought Lorna in India?"

"Tak oczywiście! Wie pani, i zawsze dotrzymuje mi towarzystwa".

Yes indeed! And she always keeps me great company, you know."

Pani Humphries otworzyła swoją wielką skórzaną torbę aby wyciągnąć chusteczkę.

"Mrs. Humphries opened her huge leather bag to pull out a handkerchief.

Przerażona, Daisy zobaczyła wijące się stworzenie wychodzące z torby.

With horror Daisy saw a wiggling creature come out of that bag.

"Pani Humphries - proszę to natychmiast zabrać ! krzyknęła Daisy.

"Mrs. Humphries - move that away immediately!" screamed Daisy.

"Co? Oh Lorna - w końcu cię znalazłam!" powiedziała pani Humphries. "Ukryłaś się w mojej torbie - ty niegrzeczna dziewczynko!"

"What? Oh Lorna - I've found you at last!" said Mrs. Humphries."You hid in my bag - you naughty girl!"

"Pani Humphries. To jest Lorna?"

"Mrs. Humphries. This is Lorna?"

"Tak, nasz bengalski wąż bagienny. Oh, dziękuję moja droga. Myślę że nie będę potrzebować już pani usług!"

Yes, our Bengali swamp snake. Oh thank you my dear. No, I don't think I need your services any longer!"

Kiedy Daisy zamknęła drzwi za Panią Humphries, przyrzekła sobie aby napisać w ogłoszeniu: bez zwierząt, bez węży.

As Daisy shut the door after Mrs. Humphries, she made a mental note to write in the advertisement: no animals, no snakes.

VOLUNTEER A TRANSLATION OR AUDIO RECORDING USING THE TEMPLATES PROVIDED HERE!

Lonweb.org has been online since 1997 and it has always managed to remain a not-for-profit website offering all its resources for free. Most Daisy Stories, Arranger Stories and Opal Storiese have been translated by volunteers who just enjoy translating and being useful to people like you who are always on the lookout for good linguistic resources. Would you like to become one of our volunteers? You can start right away following a couple of very simple instructions: when translating the Daisy,  Arranger or Opal Stories as a volunteer, please use the templates provided below and fit your translation into the parallel text slots provided. Before translating, you may check that the story has never been translated before. On the other hand, we love to publish more than one translation for any given story, so feel free to send us a translation of a story which has already been translated if you feel like it! After completion, please send your translation to robertocasiraghi@lonweb.org, it will be published in a matter of days, if not hours. Also, if you like to mention something about yourself (which may amount also to a professional curriculum!) or send us your photograph we'll be more than happy to publish it.

NEW! AUDIO PROGRAM - RECORD YOUR TRANSLATED DAISY/ARRANGER/OPAL STORY IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE!
Yes, we feel that our resources would really benefit from an audio recording to complement the reading. We do not need a professional voiceover sort of quality, the audio just needs to be understandable and without excessive background noise. So don't be shy and send us your audio readings of the Daisy, Arranger and Opal Stories!
