Niespodzianka

The Surprise

Daisy podniosła telefon i znowu próbowała dodzwonić się do swojego klienta.

Daisy picked up the telephone and tried to get through to her client again.

Her client, a certain Frank Baccini, who had a warehouse of electrical goods, had not paid for her two days' work.

Daisy udało się odkryć gdzie teraz mieszka nieuczciwy partner Pana Bacciniego i niespokojnie oczekiwała na swój czek.

Daisy had managed to discover where Mr. Baccini's dishonest partner was now living and was anxiously expecting her cheque.

Daisy was beginning to think that her client was dishonest too.

Bardzo znudzone "Halo, w czym mogę pomóc? "odpowiedziało po drugiej stronie.

A very bored "Hello, can I help you?" was the reply at the other end.

Był to głos młodej kobiety, sekretarki Franka Bacciniego.

It was a young woman's voice, Frank Baccini's secretary.

"Chciałabym rozmawiać z panem Baccinim"

"I'd like to speak to Mr. Baccini, please."

"Przepraszam ale pana Bacciniego nie ma w mieście."

"Sorry, Mr. Baccini is out of town."

"Ale kiedy wraca? Nalegała Daisy.

"But when is he coming back?" insisted Daisy.

"Obawiam się, że nie wiem."

"I'm afraid I don't know."

"Proszę powiedzieć mu, że dzwoniła Daisy Hamilton i chciałaby pilnie z nim rozmawiać."

"Will you tell him Daisy Hamilton telephoned and would like to talk to him urgently."

"Dobrze - tak, przypuszczam że tak", brzmiała kompletnie nie zainteresowana odpowiedź.

"Well - yes, I suppose so," was the completely unconcerned reply.

This was the tenth telephone conversation Daisy had had in two weeks with this young woman, but Frank Baccini hadn't got in touch with her yet.

Daisy was furious and decided to go to Mr. Baccini's warehouse to see if he was there.

Po przyjechaniu, zapukała do drzwi biura.

When she arrived, she knocked on the office door.

Sekretarka pana Bacciniego monotonnym głosem powiedziała: "Proszę wejść".

Mr. Baccini's secretary said in her monotonous voice: "Come in."

"Dzwoniłam wiele razy - nazywam się Daisy Hamilton".

"I've telephoned many times - my name is Daisy Hamilton."

"Naprawdę? Z kim chciałaby pani rozmawiać?" spytała się młoda kobieta nawet nie spoglądając na Daisy.

"Really? Who did you want to speak to?" asked the young woman without even glancing at Daisy.

"Chciałabym rozmawiać z panem Baccinim," odpowiedział Daisy.

"I want to speak to Mr. Baccini," replied Daisy.

Stawała się bardziej agresywna.

She was becoming even more aggressive.

"Obawiam się, że go nie ma," powiedziała sekretarka swoim zwykłym monotonnym sposobem i dalej czytała swoje czasopismo.

"I'm afraid he's not here," said the secretary in her usual monotonous way and went on reading her magazine.

Daisy krzyknęła "Dosyć tego !" i trzasnęła drzwiami

Daisy shouted "Enough is enough!" and banged the door closed.

Daisy czuła się raczej przygnębiona.

Daisy felt rather depressed.

"Wiem co zrobię," pomyślała, "zatrzymam się u Luigiego na dobry deser lodowy banana split."

"I know what I'll do," she thought, "I'll stop off at Luigi's for a nice banana split."

Daisy lubiła siedzieć w lodziarni Luigiego rozmawiając z właścicielem, pozytywnie myślącym Włochem.

Daisy liked sitting in Luigi's ice-cream parlour and having a little chat with the owner, a positive-thinking Italian.

As Daisy walked up the stairs to her office she felt a little less sore about human beings.

Kiedy Daisy zmieniała buty na bardziej wygodne, ktoś zapukał do drzwi i wszedł.

Just as Daisy was changing her shoes to a more comfortable pair, someone knocked on the door and walked in.

Był to robotnik w kombinezonie.

It was a workman in overalls.

"Przepraszam panią - czy Pani jest Daisy Hamilton? Gdzie mam to postawić?" wskazując na dwa duże pudełka na podeście.

"Excuse me miss - are you Miss Daisy Hamilton? Where shall we put these?" pointing to two large boxes on the landing.

"Tak, ja jestem Daisy Hamilton, ale co pan tam ma - co jest w tych pudłach?"

"Yes, I am Daisy Hamilton but what have you got there - what's in those boxes?"

"Duże to lodówka a mniejsze to automat do cappucino. Wie pani ,dobrze pani wybrała to są pierwszorzędne marki."

"The big one is a fridge and the smaller one is a cappuccino-making machine. You've chosen well, you know, these are the best makes around."

"Nie zamawiałam żadnego z nich," uniosła się Daisy.

"I haven't ordered either of these," exclaimed Daisy.

"Ale pani imię jest na dowodzie dostawy!" nalegał robotnik.

"But it's your name on the delivery note!" insisted the workman.

"To jest wszystko zapłacone - proszę mi tylko powiedzieć gdzie je położyć ".

"It's all paid for - just tell me where to put them."

Daisy właśnie chciała odmówić przyjęcia towaru kiedy zobaczyła Franka Bacciniego wchodzącego w drzwi.

Daisy was just about to refuse the goods when she saw Frank Baccini coming in the door, too.

"Pani Hamilton. Przepraszam, że się nie odzywałem.

"Miss Hamilton. I'm very sorry I haven't been in touch.

I do hope you don't mind but I had noticed you didn't have a fridge in your office and... this cappuccino-making machine is a little speciality.

Oh, by the way here is your cheque for the excellent work you did, with a little extra for your expenses."

Frank Baccini saw Daisy was astonished and added:

"Moja sekretarka dzwoniła do pani, , mam nadzieję? Wyjechałem na parę tygodni w podróż poślubną."

"My secretary did phone you, I hope? I've been away for a couple of weeks on honeymoon."

Daisy recovered herself, "Well, no, she didn't - but that's quite all right Mr. Baccini"
